Government publishes AI Opportunity Action Plan

Today (13 January) the Government published its AI Opportunity Action Plan.

The report was authored by Matt Clifford CBE, tech entrepreneur and Chair of the Advanced Research and Invention Agency. The report made many welcome recommendations, including on the skills pipeline.

The Prime Minister has accepted all 50 recommendations made in the report and pledged to “throw the full weight of Whitehall” behind the industry.

President of the London Mathematical Society, Professor Jens Marklof, said:

“Mathematics provides the foundational knowledge and language for AI models. To seize the opportunities that AI offers, the UK needs strong maths teaching at all levels and proper funding for cutting-edge research in the mathematical sciences.

We welcome the publication of the AI Opportunities Action Plan and look forward to working with the Government, universities, business and industry to strengthen the mathematical infrastructure that will enable the UK to be leaders in AI.”
